New Old

The residential housing landscape in the U.S. has without doubt changed dramatically since the 1950s. Driven largely by the most recent housing market, massive cookie-cutter structures (aka. McMansions) proliferated throughout our local communities resulting in substantially larger structures and a significant departure from our country’s traditional design heritage.

The term new old is a relatively recent design movement increasingly taking root in neighborhoods across the nation, and describes the notion of converging traditional design aesthetics with contemporary construction techniques to produce a house or, more appropriately, a home that fits in naturally with its surrounding landscape and community – a home that pays homage to the local architectural vernacular instead of contradicting or ignoring history as is so often the case with new construction. Simply put, a new old home should appear as though it has always been there.

A New Old Green Modular home is one that that evokes the spirit of the past while respectfully integrating all of the modern conveniences and amenities afforded by the 21st century.

Green

The environmental issues facing the world today are real, and we believe most people want to make a difference. The question typically is how. How can I make a meaningful difference in the world with respect to the environment? Recycling newspapers and aluminum cans just doesn't seem to cut it anymore. How about the prospect of purchasing an entire home that is manufactured utilizing sustainable practices, environmentally responsible products and offers the highest levels of energy and water efficiencies available today? Now that’s a solution worth talking about.

New World Home believes most homebuyers are conscious of environmental issues and would enthusiastically opt for a responsible solution if they could just figure out how to do so. As we contemplate the future of this planet, we are all increasingly concerned for our children’s and grandchildren’s future. The fact that these generations will invariably inherit the problems of the past evokes great dissonance and sadness. The opportunity to make an investment today for present and future generations can be one of our most gratifying actions. A New Old Green Modular home is an effective way to begin creating a personal green legacy.

When we refer to sustainability, we mean long-term cultural, ecologic and economic vitality and meeting our needs today while ensuring that future generations can continue to meet their own needs. Sustainability involves preserving the natural environment upon which people and economies depend. We believe that being truly green includes protecting the health of the planet and the overall conditions in which people live.

There are several fundamental concepts and practices that are reflected in each New Old Green Modular home including:

Modular

For decades, modular housing has carried a stigma that's been reinforced by incidents of poorly-installed vinyl siding, unimaginative designs, over-standardized plans and uninspired elevations and an association with mobile homes. However, factory-built homes have evolved considerably and the modular concept has become a viable, affordable and timely option to perpetuate the phenomenon of green building.

The potential for modular housing as an environmentally friendly building practice stems in part from the underlying nature of factory and systems-built construction. The modular, or factory-built, home system by definition lends itself well to green construction. Because the manufacturing process occurs within an enclosed space in a highly controlled and efficient setting, much of the waste and unsafe practices of on-site construction are directly eliminated.

The building blocks of a New Old Green Modular home - individual modules - are housing components constructed in a controlled factory environment. The modules are up to 90% complete and shipped from the factory to the home site. Integral to the New World Home mission is the express intention to evolve this controllable environment to a 21st century model to produce a high quality housing solution that will help set a new standard for green construction, while simultaneously introducing a product to the marketplace that is accessible, tasteful, recognizable and affordable.

Modular housing is quickly becoming one of the hottest and fastest growing sectors of the global construction industry. Several European countries (particularly in Scandinavia), Canada and Japan all employ modular production as a major home-building technique. Some of the driving forces behind this global trend include the following distinct benefits:

New World Home is proud to announce our inaugural home line consisting of several traditional designs – a few of which are already in the process of being manufactured and delivered with the highest energy standards possible (see homes currently for sale). As our company continues to grow, so too will our historically inspired home design portfolios.

“New World Home is currently on target to produce the first factory-built house to achieve the USGBC LEED for Homes PLATINUM rating in New York State.”
